Is It Always 10:08 at HTC?

What’s so cool about 10:08 that so many HTC phones show this time on the home screen? Let’s be clear, it has nothing to do with the moon landing, software updates, or a morning coffee break (though a cup of coffee sounds good right about now).  After reading through over 1,900 comments on our Facebook post last week, it’s clear many of you have your own ideas of what happens at 10:08, some definitely more interesting than others; such as:
  • The month and year the G1/Dream, the first Android device, was released
  • A bubble party (hmm….)
  • My phone takes a smile (Ok)
  • Inventor of the modern clock died (not that we are aware)
  • Maybe the first designer put 10:08 on it at random, and nobody want to change it again
  • Absolutely nothing has happened at 10:08
  • 10:09 happens 60 seconds later (True!)
  • and many more
Well, as some of you mentioned in your comments, 10:08 is the time at which a 12 hour digital display will have the maximum number of digit “segments” turned on, helping ensure the display is working correctly.  This is also the time used on analog clocks in advertisements because the clock hands are symmetrical, they don’t block the logo and they form a “smile” on the clock face.  Which is all good information, but that’s advertising, which is not really what we asked.
